Layover (Una espera inesperada) is a modern, theatrical chamber opera with world music spices composed by Markus Fagerudd and written by Maritza Núñez. The events of the show take place at the Amsterdam International Airport at a time when a large volcanic ash cloud caused the closure of European airports for several days. It tells the story of the accidental collision between Viktor, a Spanish plastic surgeon, and Barbara, a Finnish workaholic actor. The piece is an intimate erotic adventure performed by two singers with a strong stage presence and accompanied by a small band of three musicians.
"The Layover opera is a celebration of soloists' arias. The greatest impact comes from the modern libretto, which cleverly brings the tradition of classical opera to the present moment." - Hanna Salminen
